Very dry, flaky, thin, or mature skin can affect both the tattooing process and how evenly the pigment heals. When the skin is peeling, dry skin cells may collect around the needle cartridge, making consistent pigment placement more challenging.

Applying lotion the night before—or even a few days before—cannot instantly change the overall condition of the skin. Healthy, hydrated skin requires consistent care over time.

This does not mean a beautiful result is impossible. It simply means that some areas may heal lighter or unevenly, and a touch-up may be a necessary second step to achieve the best final result.

A touch-up is not always evidence of poor work. Every person’s skin responds differently, and factors such as age, dryness, skin condition, lifestyle, and aftercare can all affect pigment retention.

Your skin is unique. Please set expectations based on your own skin—not someone else’s healed tattoo. 🤍
