🛡️ HOW TO BUILD ARMOR AROUND YOUR JOINTS
Why Hypermobile Strength Training Looks Different
By Atomic Athletics powered by Arteaga
As a hypermobile person and trainer, I’ve learned that strength training for hypermobility isn’t necessarily about doing less.
It’s about training differently and more intentionally.
When your joints have access to excessive range, the goal isn’t always more flexibility.
The goal is CONTROL within the flexibility you already have.
Here’s what I’m incorporating into my hypermobility-informed training:
🔺 THREE POINTS OF CONTACT
Create a stable foundation and give your brain feedback about where your body is in space.
Foot placement and toe , heel engagement.
👀 EYE MOVEMENT & VISUAL TRACKING
Your visual system plays a role in balance and coordination. Training the eyes can add another layer of body awareness.
💪 ISOMETRIC CONTRACTIONS
Learning to create muscular tension without excessive joint movement can help develop positional control and strength.
🧠 PROPRIOCEPTION
Strength isn’t just about building muscle—it’s also about teaching the brain where your joints are and how to organize movement.
🐢 SLOW & CONTROLLED REPETITIONS
Momentum can hide instability. Slowing down allows you to feel where you lose control and correct compensations.
⚖️ CONTROL BEFORE LOAD
Before adding more weight, ask: Can I control the movement? Can I maintain alignment? Can I feel when my body begins to compensate?
🛑 STABILITY BEFORE MORE MOBILITY
Many hypermobile people don’t need to stretch deeper. We may benefit more from learning to control the range we already have.
🫁 BREATH WITHOUT GRIPPING
Stability doesn’t mean maximum tension. Learning when to engage—and when to relax—is part of intelligent strength training.
⸻
🛡️ BUILDING ARMOR DOESN’T MEAN BUILDING A CAGE.
It means creating a support system around your joints:
💪 Strength — to create force
🧠 Awareness — to know where you are
🎯 Control — to move with intention
⚖️ Stability — to move with confidence
We’re not chasing more range.
We’re learning to become strong throughout the range we already have.
🛡️ BUILD THE ARMOR. LIVE THE FREEDOM.
Strong. Stable. Adaptable.

Visual Changes I Notice in Paris’s Transformation
✨ SUCCESS STORY: Meet Paris ✨
Two years ago, Paris walked into Atomic Athletics with a goal that many people told her wasn’t possible.
She wasn’t looking to become a bodybuilder…
She simply wanted to move better, stand taller, and live with less pain.
Fast forward over 2 years of consistent strength training, Fascial Stretch Therapy, and dedic
Overall posture appears more upright with less forward collapse through the upper body.
The upper back appears less rounded than in the earlier photographs.
Shoulders appear more open and sit farther back rather than rolling forward.
Head position appears more aligned over the shoulders with less forward projection.
Neck appears longer and more elongated, creating a more balanced profile.
Upper arms show noticeably greater muscle definition, particularly around the deltoids and triceps.
Shoulders appear rounder and fuller, suggesting increased muscle development.
The upper back appears stronger, with improved definition through the shoulder girdle.
Her chest appears more lifted, contributing to a taller overall posture.
The line from her head through her upper back appears smoother, with less abrupt rounding.
She appears to hinge more through the hips rather than rounding predominantly through the upper back during forward bending.
Her torso appears more stable and supported, rather than collapsing forward.
Her stance appears more confident and balanced.
Her overall body composition appears leaner, with more visible muscle tone.
Her arms appear firmer, with less soft tissue and greater muscular contour.
Her clothing fits differently, reflecting changes in body composition and posture.
She appears to occupy more vertical space, giving the impression of standing taller.
Her facial expression and body language project greater confidence and vitality.
Overall, she presents a more youthful, athletic appearance than in the earlier photographs.
Most Striking Visual Change
The most noticeable difference is that she no longer appears to be yielding to gravity in the same way. Her posture, shoulder position, and muscle definition give the impression of a body that is actively supporting itself rather than passively settling forward.
That, to me, is the visual story these photographs tell.

❤️🏈 A Heartfelt Thank You 🏈❤️
I had the privilege of witnessing something truly special.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the Big Brother Joe Foundation and the Seattle Seahawks for creating an unforgettable experience for our youth. Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces, hearing their laughter, and watching them interact with positive role models was both refreshing and uplifting.
In a world that can often feel heavy, it is inspiring to see leaders, mentors, and community champions take time out of their busy lives to invest in the next generation. The impact of your kindness, dedication, and generosity reaches far beyond a single event—it creates memories, builds confidence, inspires dreams, and gives these children something positive to believe in.
Thank you for your hard work, your efforts, and most importantly, for having hearts that genuinely care. Your commitment to making a difference reminds us all that hope, leadership, and compassion are still alive and well.
The smiles I witnessed today were priceless. ❤️
To Big Brother Joe Foundation and the Seattle Seahawks—thank you for making dreams come true, one child at a time.
