After the disastrous 2016 presidential election, my friends, Ali King and Kirsten, co-founded a group called Nasty Women Get S**t Done [If you know where the name came from, you know.] specifically to push back against the administration’s agenda.

I was the group’s Web Director and, over the years, we did, in fact, get a lot of s**t done:

🧼 We designed the In Our America flag graphic (it didn’t exist before November 2016) and sold yard signs and merch to donate to organizations supporting the values on that flag (more than $200k)
🧼 We organized rallies, protests, and conferences
🧼 We rallied thousands of members to phone bank, write letters, and show up

After the 2020 election, the group reorganized and Ali and I both stepped down from the board. The work continues as In Our America Love Wins.
You can get the flag merch at InOurAmericaLoveWins.org, and they’re still supporting good causes. Most recently? Project Lemonade . [Full circle!]
I’m incredibly proud of what we built in those years. And I’ve missed getting s**t done with Ali.
So now we’re back at it. What are these two Nasty Women cooking up?

Find out tomorrow!

I’ve been a little quiet here recently. I got hit with a cold, and it flattened me. But, a few nights of NyQuil-induced sleep and I’m almost back to normal (well normal for me anyway!).

(That’s my Sam in the video, by the way. He’s been thrilled about extra bed time with me.)

But sick or not, I needed to share about the Project Lemonade fundraiser.

$13, 211 (FAR exceeding our $7,000 goal) and 452 donors!

Allison, their Program Director, told me: “With the funds we will be able to grant 45 WISHes — which will cover all the requests in our queue for the end of September and the month of October — woo hoo!”

And Estefania, told me: “We are in awe of your community. You are making us feel so supported and reminding us that we are not alone in this work.”

Sometimes when I’m fundraising, especially when it’s for a big organization, it feels a little bit abstract, just pouring dollars into a giant fund, but the dollars we raised? They mean real things for real youth: sports classes, musical instruments, a kid’s moth entomology class.

Congratulations to Megan H who won the 20 bars of soap, just for donating to help foster youth!

Thank you to everyone who donated. And just as much, thank you to everyone who commented or shared this along the way — that’s not a small thing, it’s how a fundraiser like this actually reaches people.
On behalf of 45 kids who just had a wish come true: thank you. THANK YOU!
